What about adding “cruising town,” fast food restaurants with the word “freeze” in them, youth bible camp-teaching and attending, baptisms in rivers, country conspicuous consumption-Home Interior/Longaberger baskets/Vera Bradley purses, loonnnggg visitation/funeral ceremonies, plastic cemetery flower arrangements made and sold in locally owned florists or “Memorial Day flower roadside stands,” kitchen motifs like apples/ducks/mixed fruit, or having “outside” pets.
Love the list! Thought I’d add…
Super Pantry/Huck’s as a place to hang out; family dinners where what’s on the table may also be mounted and hanging on the wall in the family room; Tupperware and Tupperware parties; prom (mine was at a used car dealership…); growing obscene amounts of produce in the backyard, then freezing/canning it for winter; and, of course, GARAGE SALES!
Wonderful site!
I always love the combo gas station/short order cook/video rental businesses. Or the tanning/video rental/ice cream businesses. Fabulous.
I will spread the word about your site!!
Also, since it’s been mentioned twice, I think you could devote a whole article to the 7-UP & Sherbert punch. That stuff is delicious, especially pineapple and lime. And Fry-Daddys! They can and have fried just about everything at least once.
Country people also like the volunteer fire department. While there are not a huge number of fires, many join because they feel very official and it gives them a place to go on the weekends and after there actual job/schooling. Plus they get to carry around a two-way radio were ever they go in the county for emergencies without violating local rules. When their is an actual fire, every engine and ladder company in the county will show up aide in the efforts.

Also, using old railroad ties as landscaping.

What about the yard ornaments that look like bent over cartoon characters? Or is that a different kind of country?

Interesting site. Sadly I understood every bit of it. Not only that but I knew all of those landmarks!
And you might want to mention that the best pizza was also a place you got gas.
Country people do not LIKE detassling. It’s just done to help build character and to buy a new pair of jeans for school
